About
I've recently joined the permanent staff of Anglia Ruskin University, as a fractional lecturer, having been a visiting lecturer and an hourly paid part-timer since 1981. My main responsibilities are leading creative writing workshops for students at the Cambridge School of Art, supervising undergraduate research projects and teaching Contextual Studies to BA Illustration and Illustration & Animation students.
I have another life as a freelance writer of children's books and a performer and workshop leader in schools. Since 1980 I have written or edited over 120 books for children and young people, including five books of poetry, novels, short stories, non-fiction books for major educational series such as OUP's 'Treetops' and 'Project X" reading schemes, and trade picture books books for beginner readers series such as Franklin Watts's "Leapfrog" and "Tadpole" series. I've visited schools, libraries, colleges and festivals throughout the UK and abroad to give readings, performances and lead workshops and I've
undertaken educational projects for, among others, the Philharmonia Orchestra, the Britten Sinfonia, Scottish Chamber Orchestra, Sinfonia 21, and the Fitzwilliam Museum and Kettles Yard Gallery in Cambridge.
